چکیده

Abstract Hospital infections are of great relevance in human and animal health, fomites important the spread pathogens hospital units. The aim this study was to investigate frequency enterobacteria operating room a veterinary hospital, potential cross-contamination samples, characterise susceptibility profile isolates antimicrobials. Sixty-five samples were collected from five different surgical procedures. These came hands cell phones team pet owners, tables, patients. Species detection performed through polymerase chain reaction, genetic diversity by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE), antimicrobials an antibiogram. Escherichia coli Proteus mirabilis obtained eight anaesthesiologist, owner, surgeon; surgeon's, nurse's anaesthesiologist's phones, two tables. Furthermore, PFGE showed high among isolates, which multidrug resistance. identification multidrug-resistant E. P. on is major concern and, although no direct correlation found, isolation these bacteria inside clean area shows possibility nosocomial transmission susceptible

Antimicrobial resistance patterns of Staphylococcus species isolated from cats presented at a veterinary academic hospital in South Africa

BACKGROUND Antimicrobial resistance is becoming increasingly important in both human and veterinary medicine. This study investigated the proportion of antimicrobial resistant samples and resistance patterns of Staphylococcus isolates from cats presented at a veterinary teaching hospital in South Africa. Records of 216 samples from cats that were submitted to the bacteriology laboratory of the ...

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius in a veterinary teaching hospital.

We surveyed methicillin-resistant coagulase-positive staphylococcus (MRCPS) strains from 57 (26 inpatient and 31 outpatient) dogs and 20 veterinary staff in a veterinary teaching hospital. From the staff, three MRCPS strains were isolated, and two were methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). In contrast, 18 MRCPS strains were detected in both inpatient (12 of 26 [46.2%]) and outpati...

An Exploratory Descriptive Study of Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns of Staphylococcus Spp. Isolated from Horses Presented at a Veterinary Teaching Hospital

BACKGROUND Antimicrobial resistant Staphylococcus are becoming increasingly important in horses because of the zoonotic nature of the pathogens and the associated risks to caregivers and owners. Knowledge of the burden and their antimicrobial resistance patterns are important to inform control strategies. This study is an exploratory descriptive investigation of the burden and antimicrobial dru...

Evaluation of microbial contamination of mobile phones and computer mice and keyboards in a dental school

Introduction: Mobile phones and computers are a reservoir of growth and transmission of microorganisms. This study aimed to evaluate the microbial contamination of computers and mobile phones used by students of an academic dental school, compared to the students of a non-medical school. Methods: Sampling was performed on 44 computers and 45 mobile phones in a dental school (test) and a non-med...
